Experience
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Temple University. In addition to maintaining a straight A average, I received Temple's Florence Duckworth Award for excellence in English studies. Beginning in 2009, I've been a trained volunteer for Adult Basic English (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL). With ABE, I assist adult students with learning basic literacy skills. Using ESL, I help adult immigrants to learn the predominant language of their adopted country, the United States. I have made a complete career shift in order to finish my degree and continue with this work. As an educator, I am well-versed in the traditional instruction of the English language. My tutoring is successful, in part, due to my understanding of the building blocks of literacy. I teach the basic ABCs, grammar, logical sentence structure, and practical parts of speech. My time at Temple University has brought me up to date with the latest theories in linguistics and literacy, including digital aspects. Though I am an older tutor, my recent college experience has allowed me to connect with college-age students on a peer level. I am familiar with both the core principles of English and the application of those principles in the digital age. I have strong writing skills, and can assist with both classwork and test preparation (including the GED and ACCUPLACER). In my personal life, my love of literature continues. I love to read, especially works by English and American authors.
